Roy McReyonlds, III
NSIDP Doctoral Candidate
Roy is a UCLA Neuroscience Graduate Student and recipient of the 2021 Black Men's Brain Health Fellowship. His dissertation project focuses on molecular pathways driving phenotypic changes in astrocytes in Alzheimer's disease.
Brian Toh
Staff Research Associate
Brian is a fourth-year Bruin majoring in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology and minoring in Society and Genetics. Brian has been a true leader with his contributions to studies on mechanisms of axonal degeneration after stroke. Brian aims to become a physician after finishing as a Bruin
Jennifer An
Staff Research Associate
Jenny joined the lab in early 2020. She is working on molecular mechanisms of axonal degeneration after stroke. Jenny is currently pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience at UCLA.
Sihwan Seol
Postdoctoral Fellow
Sihwan completed his PhD from Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea. He analyzed brain
transcriptome of Down syndrome patients and stressed mice using WGCNA. He joined the lab in
October 2023 to reveal molecular mechanisms of neurovascular contributions in Alzheimer's disease.
Marissa Thirion
Clinical Research Associate
Marissa completed her bachelor's degree at UCLA and joined the lab in early 2022. She coordinates clinical research activities for projects involving vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia. She hopes to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology.
Grace Prochilo
Staff Research Associate
Grace completed her undergraduate degree at Columbia and joined the lab in June2022. She uses a new 3D in vitro cerebrovascular modeling approach to study the mechanisms underlying intracranial atherosclerotic disease and subsequent stroke. Grace loves running and spending time outdoors, and she hopes to pursue a career in medicine.
Matthew Anderson
NSIDP Doctoral Candidate
Matthew is a 2nd year Graduate Student in the NSIDP program at UCLA. Matthew joined the lab in July of 2023 and hopes to pursue a career studying neurobiological mechanisms of disease. His current work focuses on the molecular pathways driving phenotypic changes in endothelial cells within the context of Alzheimer's disease.
Kiran Mirla
UCLA Undergraduate
Kiran is a fourth year Human Biology and Society major with a minor in Philosophy. He is pursuing a career in medicine. Kiran joined the lab in January of 2022, assisting with clinical research projects focusing on stroke recovery. Outside of the lab, Kiran enjoys hiking and reading dystopian novels.
Alissa Pfeffer
UCLA Undergraduate
Alissa is a second-year Bruin majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Musicology. Alissa joined the lab in Summer 2022 and hopes to pursue a career in medicine. Outside of research, she enjoys playing guitar and finding new hiking spots.
Ava Vehemente
UCLA Undergraduate
Ava is a second-year Bruin majoring in Neuroscience, with a minor in Biomedical Research. She hopes to pursue a career in medicine and research. Ava joined the lab in 2023 and is studying the mechanisms regulating tissue repair after white matter stroke.
Maeve Settle
UCLA Undergraduate
Maeve is a third year UCLA undergraduate majoring in Physiological Science and I'm originally from Alaska. She is working on the SARM1 project in the lab and enjoys running and hiking in her free time!
Veronica Lubera
Staff Research Associate
Veronica studies pathways in oligodendrocytes to promote remyelination after stroke. Following the completion of her work, she will begin her career as a future physician-scientist. When not in the lab, she can be found exploring the botanical gardens on campus and trying new dessert places in LA.
Malaki Lopez
UCLA Undergraduate
Malaki is a a third year Psychobiology major pursuing a minor in Biomedical Research. He hopes to attend an MSTP in the future, continuing to conduct neurologic research. In his spare time, he tinkers with computer hardware and reads literary classics.
