Jason is a physician-scientist, trained in vascular neurology and neurorehabilitation, with clinical expertise in stroke, stroke recovery, vascular cognitive impairment, and dementia. In July 2026, he was appointed the Susan & David Wilstein Endowed Chair in Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In addition to heading the UCLA VCID CWOW and his own lab, he also serves as Director of the Katherine and Benjamin Kagan AD Treatment Program and Director of the Easton Center Labs for Neurodegeneration. He co-directs the UCLA Neuroscience Physician-Scientist Training Program. He believes in fairness in education, science, and medicine.
Yutaro completed his PhD with Dr. Bruce Lamb at Case Western Reserve University and joined the lab in 2018 to develop viral tools for transcriptional profiling of glial cells in tauopathy. He has expertise in bioinformatics, gene expression, and data visualization.
Quique completed his PhD focused on dysregulation of energetic pathways in rodent models of stroke. He joined the lab in 2021 to study vascular regulation of myelination through chemokine signaling.
Sihwan completed his PhD at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea, where he analyzed brain transcriptomes of Down syndrome patients and stressed mice using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). He joined the lab in October 2023 to study molecular mechanisms of neurovascular contributions in Alzheimer's disease.
Saraswathi received her PhD in Neuroscience from the Medical University of Vienna in 2016. She joined the lab in fall 2025 and focuses on the convergence of ischemic stroke and neurodegeneration, working to understand the mechanisms that orchestrate white matter injury and tauopathy. Outside the lab, her days are filled with family, Tamizh music, reading, hiking, and traveling.
Matthew is a graduate student in the NSIDP program at UCLA who joined the lab in July 2023. His work focuses on molecular pathways driving phenotypic changes in endothelial cells in the context of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
Russell is a PhD candidate in Biochemistry, Molecular and Structural Biology at UCLA. He earned his dual B.S./M.S. in Biochemistry from UCLA in 2023 and joined the Hinman Lab as a Staff Research Associate II in April 2024 before beginning his PhD. His research uses patient-specific 3D cerebrovascular models, confocal imaging, and single-cell multiomic approaches to investigate how disturbed blood flow regulates endothelial biology in intracranial atherosclerotic disease and stroke. Outside the lab, Russell enjoys reading, running, and gaming.
Jenny is an NSIDP graduate student in the Hinman Lab. She received her B.S. in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Biomedical Physics from the University of South Florida, and built a foundation in molecular biology as a research technician in labs at Dartmouth College studying the cancer biology of colorectal tumors and gliomas. Her passion for translational and regenerative neuroscience led her to the Hinman Lab, where she studies the molecular mechanisms that activate axon regeneration in stroke-injured neurons to promote pro-growth pathways for functional motor recovery — work she hopes will help broaden the recovery window for stroke patients. Outside of lab, Jenny enjoys roller skating, running, climbing, and backpacking to go off grid and recharge.
Brian completed his UCLA undergraduate degree in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology with a minor in Society and Genetics, and has contributed to lab studies on mechanisms of axonal degeneration after stroke. He plans to pursue a career in medicine.
Rashmika is a Staff Research Associate in the Hinman Lab. She holds a Master of Science in Biological Sciences from Purdue University Fort Wayne and joined the lab in January 2024. Her work focuses on quantifying blood-based biomarkers of cerebral small vessel disease and vascular cognitive impairment in human serum and plasma using a range of immunoassay platforms. She aspires to build a career in the biotech industry. Outside of work, she loves exploring coffee shops, dancing, and traveling to scenic destinations.
Ava is a Neuroscience major with a minor in Biomedical Research. She joined the lab in 2023 and studies the mechanisms regulating tissue repair after white matter stroke.
